Where It All Began

Born and raised on Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy, Canada, we were fortunate to grow up in one of the world’s most renowned seaweed harvesting communities. Although we both attended university, we always knew we wanted to return home, be close to our families, and build our future on the island we love.

Throughout our summers, we harvested wild seaweed, continuing a tradition that has been passed down through generations. After graduating, we returned home to become lobster fishermen and professional seaweed harvesters. The ocean has always been our livelihood, our passion, and our way of life.

In 2019, we founded Dark Harbour Dulse after recognizing the growing global demand for wild-harvested seaweeds and the expanding use of these remarkable marine plants across the food, health, cosmetic, agricultural, and pet food industries.

Today, we are proud to sustainably harvest and process premium Canadian seaweeds from the pristine waters surrounding Grand Manan Island, sharing the world-famous Dark Harbour Dulse and other exceptional seaweeds with customers around the globe.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create the greatest benefit possible for the people of Grand Manan. We proudly hire local workers, support independent harvesters, and remain committed to sustainable harvesting practices that have been passed down for over 150 years. By thinking as harvesters first and buyers second, we ensure every decision supports both our community and the future of our coastal ecosystem. As locally owned and operated Canadians, we are proud to continue growing while staying true to our island roots.
