Harvesting Area

Dark Harbour is located along the remote western shore of Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick. This rugged 24-kilometre coastline is lined with towering rocky cliffs reaching up to 200 feet and can only be accessed by small traditional boats known as dories.

The area’s unique geography helps create exceptional growing conditions. The high cliffs shade the intertidal zone, protecting the seaweed from prolonged sun exposure. This allows our seaweeds to develop their naturally darker colour, thicker texture, and rich ocean flavour—qualities that are difficult to reproduce through conventional seaweed farming.

Grand Manan Island lies at the entrance to the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides in the world. Twice each day, enormous tides move nutrient-rich, cold Atlantic water around the island, continuously renewing the environment where our seaweeds grow.
